This SOP outlines the process for setting up page redirects within the Tent Apps system. It details how to redirect traffic from a specific announcement to another page, especially useful for directing users to signup forms or related content.
Hey everyone in this video tutorial, we're gonna show you how to set up a redirect so that if somebody goes to a specific page or a specific announcement how you can redirect that traffic to go to another page. This tutorial can also be helpful in a situation like this where you have an event that you're advertising that says like, hey click here to sign up and you don't really want them to go. To that normal news landing page or announcement landing page, you want them instead to go to a signup form, maybe on planning center or somewhere else. So to get going, we're gonna go ahead and go into the back end, go to your announcement that you want to redirect and send to someplace different. So if somebody clicks on that post and said to go into that post, you want them to go to someplace else. So in order to set that up, we're gonna go ahead and click on this a n announcement that you want to edit. Umm, now in the top right corner, you're gonna see screen options here. Go ahead and click on screen options. And you want to be sure and toggle on and make sure RankMath SEO is checked. Once that is checked, you're gonna want to scroll down to RankMath SEO. Now you can toggle this on and off if you want this to show or not show. Now one of the things I would say here is if you don't see this advanced tab, reach out to sport it to nap start. com and we can help you adjust a few settings on our side. So this will show for you. So we'll go ahead and click on advanced and we're gonna go ahead and, uh, click on redirect here. Now a few things to know on the redirection type. There is a 301 permanent move. That means once you set this, basically you're not gonna change your mind. Now this might be a temporary move and this, uh, maybe this link will change, but I'm gonna. I'm gonna go here and basically if somebody is clicking on this, um, they are sending people to this, uh, form right here. So I'm gonna go ahead and just copy that form so that way. Instead of sort of saying, hey click here and then on that page, click here again. We're gonna go ahead and paste this destination URL in there. And again, I'm gonna set this as a temporary redirect just in case we need to come in and change this. That way caches don't hold. . This, uh, forever true. Now, uh, if you're changing a page, let's say from children's ministry to kids ministry. And that's always gonna be that from now on. Then I would go ahead and leave it as a 301 permanent move. But let's go ahead and save this. And I'm gonna go ahead and click on update here. Now this won't affect where this is showing on your TVs or another things like this. But think about this, if you have this in your e-newsletter and somebody clicks on it, um, it will redirect them to this new page that you're going, that you're sending them to. So, just wanted to let you know all that. I'm gonna go ahead and refresh this homepage here. And let me show you, if somebody now clicks on this lookup advent devotional, it goes straight to that. Now if that's not what you want and you want them to click on it, then you don't wanna use. So, now you can use that to go to external pages or to internal pages. Now another thing I wanna show is, if you need to set up different redirections, you can go to SEO and click on Redirections. That's the easy way to do it from a page or from a post. But you're also welcome to come over to SEO and go to Redirections. You can click on Add New. You can put in your source URL. Now, the source URL is gonna be, it's not. It's not include your base URL. So you're not gonna include, like, my church.com, backslashnews. It would be just backslashnews here. And so I typically will just copy the URL that's there and then paste that in here and then just remove whatever's on the front of it. And then paste in the destination URL. Now the destination URL. URL does need to have the full HTTPS, colon, backslash, backslash, www.mychurch or planning center or whatever. Again, I would just copy and paste this here. Now to explain again, you, a 301 redirect would be for more so SEO purposes of saying, hey, this has permanently changed, send any credit that this page has over to the new page. Umm, a lot of times if you're just sort of doing qua- quick announcements, I would just leave it as a 307 in case if you change your mind and you need to change it, 301 can sometimes hold a cache a little bit. And so you'll see if you need to change things quickly, might not be the best bet, but if you know it's permanent, then go ahead and leave it as permanent. Now you can also schedule these activations to where you say, hey, I don't want this redirect to actually start until next week. Or hey, I want this to- stop on this day. Now we do have some clients that- this is really helpful, especially around holiday seasons or different things like that. Umm, so let us know if you have any questions on this. We'd love to see how we can help and go from there. Thanks so much.
