This SOP provides a comprehensive guide on how to utilize global sections, rows, and modules within Tent Apps. By implementing global elements, users can efficiently manage content that appears on multiple pages, ensuring consistency and saving time on updates.
Hey guys, uhm, if you've ever met with us or gone through training over a video call, you may have heard our team talk about global modules or global sections, global rows, etc. Uhm, but I wanted to give you guys an overview of what global means, and if you're feeling brave, how to, uh, utilize them. Uhm, so, what I would use them for is, here's my example section. Uhm, this is an FAQ section that I have on the home page of my website, and sometimes I want an FAQ section on both the home page and my about page, or, and my plan a visit page. And so, a global section is helpful so that I don't have to go back and forth, like if I wanted to add an FAQ to this, or if I wanted to change one of my answers, I can change it in one spot, and it'll change it. change on the other page as well, or other pages if I have it in multiple spots. Or, like, if I change this image, uhm, once I have it saved as a global module, that image will change on both pages. Now, a global module looks a little bit different. than the rep, or a global section, or whatever, looks a little bit different than the typical ones. So, if you, if you are familiar with Divi, you are familiar with the blue is a section, the, kind of, aqua green is your row that has your columns. And then, your modules are these grey guys. Uhm, but if I scroll up, I have a global section already created, and that is this right here. Because, I might want my mission to be featured on, my, uhm, homepage, but also probably our about page, or maybe somewhere else as well. And so, if my mission, if my church mission ever changed, I, I would want it to easily change across my entire site. Uhm, especially in these little featured sections, because that draws a people's eye in. Uhm, so, if you notice, when I hover over these, the outline is still familiar color, except for this section. Uhm, but the outline is still a familiar color, but these boxes are an aggressive lime green. That lime green is telling you this is a global section, row, and module. If you make a change in this spot, you're going to make a change in the other spot. So, let me pull up the page that has this on it, and I'm going to make a change, and then I'm going to reload. the other page that has it on there, and you'll see what, what I mean. Okay. So, here is our About page. You can see that I am not logged in to the Visual Builder at all. I'm not making changes on this page. But here is that same page. Now I'm going to go back to the page where I have the Visual Builder enabled. First thing I'm going to do is I'm going to go to the settings, background, and I'm going to change the background color. That's going to be a pretty obvious change. It's hard to miss it. So, changing it from green, my background color, to that coral, which is my accent color. Now, if I go to the settings, I'm just going to add in some info. Alright, so I made that change. I hit the checkmark. All is good. I'm going to hit save. So now, if I go back to this page, I haven't reloaded anything. It looks the same. If I reload it and if I, set everything up correctly, it should update. Alright, we have it changed. I made a change on one page that changed on the other. Uhm, so global modules, as long as you, you take the time to understand them and make note of where you're putting them, they can be super helpful to make your site as cohesive as possible. So, that being said, I'm going to show you how to save a section or module. or whatever, as a global one, and then how to use it on another page, and that's what I'm going to use my FAQ section for. So, let's go back, uhm, I'm going to cha- make, I'm going to undo these changes, so let me go back to the background because I like my green. And then, I'm going to delete my text as well. There we go, okay. So, now we can save that. Uhm, I'm going to scroll down. And, here is our FAQ section. Like I said before, you like to have, you'll probably want to have your FAQ. An error for us, let's try again. It's always good for you guys to see the errors and how I, or how our team handles them. Let me hit save one more time. Okay. So, if you ever see that message pop up, don't panic. Hit, like, the left green button. Try to save it a few more times if it's still giving you that error. Download the backup, and then send it to us at support, because we can upload that, and that way you don't lose all of your changes, because you don't want to be working on your site for an hour every time. And then lose all of your changes, like if your internet crashes, or it's, there's something wrong with the server, or whatever. So, random tangent, let's back, back on the subject, uhm, this is my FAQ section, I want it on my About page, as well as my Home page, uhm, Yeah. If I want this entire area, the entire thing encompassed in green, I am going to make the entire section a global module, but let's say maybe I just want the FAQs, I can save that as a global module, I can save just the image, whatever. Usually, in my uses, I'll save the entire section, or maybe, like, if I know I want all of the info to be the exact same, but maybe I want the freedom to change the background color. Like, I want this, I want all of this, but I want the background color to be orange on my About page. I'll save the row. So, that's typically what I do, um, but it's going to be the same process no matter what you do. I'm going to hit these three dots, and then we're going to click Save to Library. Now, it brings up this box with the arrow and everything. I'm going to make the section name as clear as I possibly can, because this is for my use only. So, I'm going to change this to Church FAQs. And sometimes I'll even put in the year, just so I know, when was the last, when did I create this? So, sometimes I'll even put in the year. And then, if we scroll down, there's this little on-off button. And it's telling us to save it as a global. So, if I turn this on, that is what's going to make it so that I can make one change in one spot, and it'll change in the other spot. So, now I'll save it to the library. Okay. Now, I saved it to the library. You can see all of these little things are green, and that means it's a global. Now, one thing that I can do is I can either hit these three dots, and I can copy the section, but I'm going to exit the visual builder. I'm going to save and exit. And then, I'm going to go to the new hair page where I want to put this, and I'm going to show you how to add a global section to a page. So, this is going to be my standstill page where I'm not making any changes, but it has a global section. And then, I'm going to go to my new hair page, and I'm going to enable the visual builder. Alright, uh, visual builder is enabled. Now I just need to figure out where I want to put my section. Oops, it's going to take a Okay. Now I think it's ready for me. Let's try that again. Alright, so I think I want my section, like, right here, maybe. Yeah, I'll put it right here. So if I hover over these, you see the plus button, if I right click it, I am not going to see exactly what I want. Let's try that again. Let me right click these three little dots. There we go. I wanted that paste section option. So if I paste the section, It added it directly to below. Uhm, but we have another option. So let's delete this. And then if we hover over it, we hit that plus button. We can click add from library. And then this is where the title that I saw. So you can see that I have one called Church Mission. That's that green one that I was using as an example. Uhm, but this is my church FAQs for 2026. And that little globe means it's a global module. There's, yeah, there are some in here. And you probably will see these on your site, but they're not actually in use. Uhm, but here is this one. I'm going to click on this. I'm going to use this section. And then it'll add it to my page. There you go. So it added that. Uhm, now I'm going to do what I did before. I want to test it out. I want to make sure it looks good. So I'm going to go into these settings. And if you need to know how to make this FAQ section or FAQ module, I have another video on that. You can go and watch that video. I'm just going to show you the global stuff for right now. But I can duplicate one of these. And I'm I'm just going to change it to, Okay, that's probably not an FAQ that I would have on my site, but you can add that. And then I'm going to save. And once that's done saving, I'm going to reload. I'm reload my homepage. And that new FAQ should be in There you go. So, I can go in and I can change anything in here, anything in there. And it'll change across both pages. That's really helpful, like, if you have the same FAQs for your church side as, not your church side, your youth as well as your, uhm, children. That's really helpful. That's really helpful for that. Uhm, there's a lot of things it can be used for. So I'm going to just grab a new image. Here we go, looks like somebody's, has a question. There we go. If I save this. It should be changed on my home page. Alright, there we go. Our image changed. So there is your overview of Global Sections, Rows, and Modules. Uhm, you may notice, now that you have your eye looking out for that kind of lime green color, you may notice that your footer, you can see that kind of lime right there, that your footer is a Global Module, as well as your header. Uhm, I typically don't recommend making changes to those. Uhm, I recommend that you reach out to us. At support, in order to make changes to your, uhm, header and footer, just because we have so much styling code in there. And I don't want your entire site to break, and people not be able to navigate your site. Uhm, so, uhm. I typically recommend that you let us make those big changes, but, uhm, creating stuff within the page, creating those little sections, uhm, if you are feeling like you're confident with it, go for it, it can make your life a whole lot easier, and it can make your site a lot more cohesive. But again, as always, if you have any questions, or you want us to do this for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to us, we are always happy to help, and you have a great day!
